Random observationThe post office is running their yearly food drive. I searched through the cabinet looking for canned goods to put in the bag that will hang on the mailbox. Probably isn't very samaritan of me to include the pork and beans that say "Sell before May 1999", is it??? UPDATE Little did I know this entry would inspire another blogger's search for outdated food items in their own pantry! Joe Jenett reports the results from his house: Now I'm left wondering if Manwich is a household staple since I have a can tucked away, too. Not to mention vienna sausages, which lately have come in quite handy. Neither of us here at home actually eat them, so Scott's been feeding them to Dolly. Their texture makes it easy to stick the little bit of crushed Benadryl inside. Works like a charm ;) Maybe we should have a running contest on who has the oldest pantry items. Hard to beat 1980, though... 10:52:00 AM comment []

Weather-beatenBlogging's been light here over the past few days. I suppose it might have something to do with floods, tornadoes, weddings and finances - not necessarily in that order. No doubt my spirit is intertwined with Mother Nature's, and she's not been feeling the least bit harmonious with the world this week. I've felt about as wilted and worn as those poor little marigolds in my flowerbed, who I'm sure by this time are silently wondering "why me?"...Maybe I need to have a little heart to heart talk with them. You know... just so they won't feel so alone. I'd do the same with Mother Nature, but I don't have the nerve. She's obviously sleeping in this morning, and there would be hell to pay if I woke her. Here are some photographs Scott took one afternoon when we ventured out after the tempest. They look to be a little dark on my screen. Just take my word for it...there was water everywhere! Old power house at Duck River Dam Proof positive that rednecks have parking lots in their front yards Flood gate was closed to prevent the river from taking over the entire town (schools were closed for three days) On a more positive note, it's Saturday and I've just poured my second cup of coffee. The kittens have been fed and the rest of the house is sleeping. Looks like a good time to check my Blogshares and catch up on my reading. Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday :) 8:03:14 AM comment []
