Rob Galbraith wrote about his experiences with a pre-production Canon EOS-1Ds. He says that "at its best, the preproduction EOS-1Ds body in hand here matches or exceeds the level of clarity of the best Hasselblad and Mamiya 6x7 prints I've ever made" for prints up to 12x18. There were some problems as well, which is not surprising with a pre-production unit.
Pretty interesting -- think what this would do for shooting panoramas. That's a huge amount of detail, perhaps more than most people need when you are shooting 14 shots around with a 28mm. When these cameras become more prevalent, I would guess photographers will shift to even wider-angle lenses (14-16mm) to minimize the number of shots around while still getting plenty of resolution. And fisheye lenses will become more appealing as well, with the added resolution. Think of how much CPU power will be necessary to work with & stitch these giant images -- maybe CPU manufacturers will want to publicize immersive imaging with 11-14 megapixel cameras because it will drive purchases of 2-3Ghz PCs?
