Scott Highton has a new edition of the popular Virtual Reality
Photography Slate Book available at: http://www.vrphotography.com
The book is a spiral bound, pocket size tool that photographers use
when shooting both panorama and object sequences. It provides
color and grayscale targets along with a collection of slate forms
which you fill out and photograph with each node or series of VR images
you shoot. This
aids in both the cataloging and color correction of your images in post production.
The book also includes a neutral gray and rectilinear correction target
for setting proper exposures (and white/gray balances), as well as for
determining whether your lenses are truly rectilinear (as needed by
many software stitchers). Additionally, there are reference
charts for FOV (fields of view) and hyperfocal distances (which when
used, allow you to maximize depth of field at any aperture).
Two features that have been added to the new edition are a collection
of tear-out Photo and Property Release forms, along with a description
and formulas for calculating camera positions when shooting large
objects in the field.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
