Copyright and the US Federal Gov't: "

While I watch the news in Portland about Mt. St. Helens and its possible upcoming eruption, I'm seeing plenty of links to the volcano webcam on blogs. One of the blogs that stood out for different reasons is the Berkeley Intellectual Property blog's post about the Terms of Service, copyright status, and law around Federal work entering the public domain. In the end, the author can't prove that the webcam images are in the public domain, but draws the conclusion they likely should.

Which raises another question -- what about government employees who make VRs during their work day? Are those panoramas in the public domain? Read the berkeley Intellectual Property blog and see what you think.

Digital photo management: "There are many digital photo management tools out there and even if iPhoto satisfies your photographic desires, it's worth checking out some of the alternatives."

I'm not sure why they don't mention Canto Cumulus 6. It can manage digital photos and with an optional $49 software addition, supports reading batches of RAW files. Unfortunately Cumulus 6 no longer supports AppleScript.

Purpose
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
