A husband-and-wife team reached the Pacific Ocean (in October) after a 4,900-mile cross-country hike, becoming the first to backpack the transcontinental American Discovery Trail in one continuous trek.

Marcia and Ken Powers started February 27 at Cape Henlopen in Delaware. Nearly eight months later, they looked out over the Pacific Ocean at Point Reyes.

Editor's Note: For those people who finished the Pacific Crest Trail or the Appalachian Trail and are wondering what to do next, the American Discovery Trail is the only coast-to-coast, non-motorized recreational trail for hiking, biking, & riding. For more info on the Trail, visit the trail website.

"Besides the interface redux, the biggest and best new feature is the fully automatic stitching engine. Instead of dragging and dropping your images and hoping they fit together correctly, Stitcher 5 does the work for you with a click of a single button. This is awesome for those who need to quickly generate content without having to manually place and stitch images. This is also very handy if you have a large number of original images to wade through. Because there is no learning curve with the automatic stitching engine a novice will be able to generate content in minutes."

Editor's note: to recap, the recent news of 4 QuickTime vulnerabilities came out after Apple had already provided an update that zapped them on Windows and OS X. This new vulnerability has not been patched yet. And the question of whether QuickTime on OS 9 is subject to any of them remains unanswered.
