Godt Nyttår!
What a year it's been - two surgeries, multiple time zones, an interpersonal gotcha or two and lots of snow and ice. That chapter of life, for better or worse, is closed.
Two years ago, in the middle of 2000, I sat in a Whittier restaurant with Markus contemplating life. The excitement of the moment was similar to what I used to experience when I was still a kid, waiting for my dad to get home from a long trip. The future was so good I could salivate. It was at this point Markus said something I'll never forget:
"This is Summer, and Winter is inevitable; Winter is just around the corner..."
Surely winter did come. After a year of wondering whether I could keep my job I was made to realize that a job means naught compared to wondering if one will ever walk or eat again. Well, now that winter has come I can say with the same certainty that Spring's vestige is here.
I'm getting hope from unexpected places, the country of my youth elected a new president after 24 years of benevolent embezzle-ocrat, and I know exactly what kinds of things to do to have fun.
