 The Ohio Supreme Court has issued a ruling that the practice of advancing funds to plaintiffs is illegal, and constitutes champerty and maintenance.  The agreement in question was styled as a nonrecourse loan and bore an interest rate of more than 180% per year.  Rancman v.
