There is real drama in the world of particle physics these days. You have probably been following this if g-2 rings a bell. Today's NY Times made note of the interplay between theory and experiment in the real world.

The article concludes with a sobering statement - particle physics (or any of the fundamental sciences) are not important to the current administration. So much for planting seed corn.
Here is the experiment's webpage... this is an exceptionally difficult experiment and the experimental design is beautiful (I cheated and spent a few weeks reading their papers last Summer.)

Perhaps supersymmetry exists... if so that would be astonishing and could have a fundamental impact on our view of astrophysics... Here is a dated, but readable popular note by Sid Drell.

The world of cosmology (which has only been science for a small number of decades), astrophysics and particle physics are deeply coupled. A revolution is underway.
Moving away from the fundamental questions to pretty pictures we have some wonderful images of clouds, smoke and ship tracks off the California coast.
