taking aggressive stances relative to IP rights on the handful of embryonic stem cell lines
sanctioned by Bush's stupid regulation: shame on you. Shame on your families. [
John Robb's Radio Weblog]
This extreme shaming is justified! Our entire world is suffering from the actions caused by the essential ideas that cuase the types of thinking critisized by John Robb. The root issue is enabling the problem in the first place. Bush in first instance is limiting access to stem cells, and therefore reinforcing the second issue, the view that intellectual property rights can be called upon to monopolize on these scarcities.
The first offensive memeplex is the concept of one god and creation. Our world suffers because we cannot think clearly about how we fit into this world. George Bush (and Christian right) beleive it is wrong to explore and learn about the world of life in which we are emmersed; that this is God's domain and that we humans have no right to approach anything to do with (the) creation. This false reasononing destroys our species ability to fully engage in life, to harmonize with the world in which we live .
The second offensive memeplex is the concept of ownership over things and ideas in this world. Our world suffers because we exploit it for profit and control growth and opportunity for all in favor of the few. The perversion here is individual property rights transferred to cyberspace and the resulting permanent monopolies sanctioned by government (bought and paid for)and the resulting death of our culture because of the control being exercised over ideas and creativity in general.
It is even more ironic that the first problem of the christian view supports and enhances the second problem of dominion over the things in this world- especailly ideas. For the essential error in the chritian view is that the christian idea is right, and everone else is wrong. And that somehow one can even own an idea and profit from others having access to it.
Shame on their families!!!
I grew up patriotic (conditioned), with communism and the russians as the enemy. These days I feel that we need to pledge allegience to the earth, and strive to free ourselves from the grips of fundamentalist , whether they be of the christian, islamic, or capatalist sort; and as always, strive to become sustainable.
(whew!, that felt like a Sunday morning sermon....)
