Is Microsoft Becoming Irrelevant?
I don't know that I agree with this opinion but it's an interesting point of view nonetheless. Can we really count the six-hundred pound gorilla of personal computing out?
Microsoft's New Irrelevance. Microsoft has been styled the robber baron of software for nearly two decades now, and as the company's reach has grown longer, the cries of alarm from savvy users have grown louder and more urgent. But a funny thing happened on the way to a Microsoft-ruled IT world. Customers stopped obeying the software titan's whims. [osOpinion]

Ah...at Last I Find the Source of Some of Those Hilarious Pictures that Get E-mailed to Me.
Now this strikes me as a potential source for many forwarded e-mails.

A Cutting Edge Music Collective
If you like to listen to quirky music, you would do well to check out Renegade Heaven composed and played by various members of Bang On A Can. I'm hoping that one day soon they'll release a recording of The Carbon Copy Building, a new opera composed by a couple of members of the organization. I also hope (if any of them reads this!) that they'll come through Southeast Michigan sometime soon. I haven't been able to make it to New York to see them and I'd love to see a live performance of The Bang on a Can All-Stars.

BBQ With Friends
The days are getting shorter. Soon fall will be here and the weather will turn colder. But we've got a little bit of summer left and I intend to enjoy it as much as possible.
Sharon and I have been invited to a BBQ on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend with two good friends of ours, Susan and Mike. Susan's a sweetheart; I couldn't have picked a nicer human being for Sharon to be best friends with if I had tried. And her husband Mike strikes me as an artsy kind of guy like me. I think he's a bit less of a dabbler than I am. In fact, a lot less of a dabbler--he's got chops when he plays his guitar that would make a professional guitarist envious.
Oh yes, I'm a dabbler. I've dipped my toe into many artistic ponds and only dove into a few of them. I find that writing is fun. Being done with writing is even more fun. I've never been much for the visual arts (drawing, sculpting etc.) Even with the performing arts I tend to have a strong bias to verbal things. I love well-written dialog.
