Yesterday, I spoke with Tom McMakin and Phil Collins of Thrive Capital Partners, a new private equity firm that targets emerging growth companies. They describe their target market as "north of VC and south of buyout (audio clip)." Given their focus on helping stimulate internally generated growth (audio clip) over an extended timeframe, Tom and Phil sound more like the Sage of Omaha than the mavens of Sand Hill Road. Pioneering entrepreneurs leading consumer-oriented companies with a proven business model who are looking to grow might want to take note.
