Impressive kinetic sculptures -- Comment() Flowforms: "Cavities are shaped to accommodate spontaneous cycles of wave propagation over streams that enter continuously, but recirculate asymmetrically and rhythmically. [...] The single, asymmetric cavity variant, which converts continuous inflow to intermittent outflow [...] a discovery that led on to studies of flow through the heart." Philip Kilner wrote a description of his sculptures in a recent issue of Nature (6 July 2006). The kinetic behaviour is due to cyclic propagation of surface waves, deriving their energy from the inflowing stream. The video of the kinetic sculpture in action is impressive: "The flow sculpture, top right, was made in copper by Philip Kilner and is at Royal Brompton Hospital in London."

-- Comment() Eric Hoffer: "A preoccupation with the future not only prevents us from seeing the present as it is but often prompts us to rearrange the past." [Motivational Quotes of the Day]

-- Comment() Google digs deep, and Websense sifts the dirt: "Websense has developed a method of sniffing out malware using Google's binary search, a little known Google capability that digs deep into executable files. [...] Half of this is very interesting, and the other half scares the daylights out of me. [...] The fact that Google can crawl at this level, combined with desktop search, puts everyone's archives at risk of leaking into the open..." [Spamroll]
