Heidi Part 2?

It was a great football game - the score was 34-34 and overtime was almost over .  The Steelers blocked a low-trajectory field goal attempt by the Falcons and had 1, count 'em 1 second left on the clock.

The Steelers lined up, snapped the ball and...Channel 8 broke in with a weather advisory.

Now if there is an emergency and they need to tell people to run to their basement then they should break into anything.  But the next several minutes were spent bragging about their Doppler radar and giving reports that certainly could have waited 1 more second.  Weren't they watching their own station?  We are talking one second!

Fortunately after they cut back to the game we were able to see a replay of the amazing Hail Mary catch that was completed but about 2 feet short of the end zone.

From the news about the flood of calls the station received it reaffirms the premise that Clevelanders are very involved in both weather and football.

Later in the evening when all the other stations had weather updates, Ch 8 aired its regular programming - maybe they had been cowed by the number of calls earlier.

Hey, at least the Steelers didn't win.

As you probably know, Warren Zevon doesn't have long to live. He has incurable lung cancer and is in his last few weeks.

Zevon is a true original - his songs are witty and insightful.  If you crossed Tom Waits with the blue-collar Springsteen you might get a hint of Zevon.

You undoubtedly know his hits like Werewolves of London, Poor Poor Pitiful Me, Lawyers Guns and Money and so on.  But he is one of the few artists that give you a whole album's worth of good stuff with every release - not just a hit or two and some filler.

I first saw him in concert a looooong time ago in the John Carroll gymnasium and have been a huge fan ever since.

Check out some of his music - he is a true original and will be missed.  If you are a fan, you can tell him so via email at zevon@artemisrecords.com

The days slide by
Should have done, should have done, we all sigh
Never thought I'd ever be so lonely
After such a long, long time
Time out of mind
We made mad love
Shadow love
Random love
And abandoned love
Accidentally like a martyr
The hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder

(from Accidentaly like a Martyr)
