Wow. This city's IT community is really buzzing. Last week was the successful launch of ClevelandIntern.Net which will help retain and attract smart kids in the area. A ceremony in the City Hall Rotunda was loaded with bigwigs.
Then the Cleveland Area Knowledge Industry (CAKI) awards were held at the Great Lakes Science Center on Friday night. The black tie (optional) event recognized some of the leading tech companies in the area. Read details of both events on the Magnum site.
Yesterday (Tuesday) several hundred people showed up for an IT Summit at Landerhaven. Mayor Campbell and numerous leaders from the tech community participated (Lev Gonick of CWRU, Jim Cookinham of NEOSA, Ed Tromcynski of PlanSoft, Roy Church of LCC and so on) in this Nortech-Neosa production. Stacey Condon of Nortech did a great job coordinating the event.
Besides the usual speeches and reports, the attendees got a chance to give their input in 4 facilitated sessions. Look for the details on the Magnum site soon.
The attendance and the buzz generated at these events are really encouraging. There are some cool people and things going on. In fact, look for the announcement of the first FunkBuster Award tomorrow. FunkBuster is Jim Cookinham’s idea to recognize people who are breaking out of the whining, Eyor-like funk that so many are in. I know the selection but promised Jim C not to tell until he announces. Suffice it to say, the winner is a no-brainer - a first-class FunkBuster.
The Blog will be light for the next week - I am off to Las Vegas for Comdex. Should have some interesting items when I get back.
