An official warning of a major hacker attack on the Internet sent computer system
managers nationwide scrambling Tuesday, but it turned out to be little more than a false
alarm. The overall Internet was not affected, and major Internet companies said

FBI Warns of Widespread Internet Hacker Attacks. A warning of imminent hacker attacks on U.S. Web sites was issued by the National
Infrastructure Protection Center, an interagency group that operates under the
aegis of the FBI. Media reports said that some Internet traffic reached levels seven
