Adults Believing in Children (ABC of Guilford County)

Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera otherwise I would be posting a picture from the church parking lot in Jamestown where I attended my first ABC meeting.  Some readers of the N&R might be surprised to learn that while I noted many high-end, late model sedans, I did not see even one pick-up truck -- let alone anything sporting a rebel flag in the back.

Inside the demographics were still identical to what I see at most LP and JBS (and GOP) meetings, but looking at all the players, the school board is going to have to deal with a group that has breadth well outside its original core in High Point.  The interim Treasurer is from Summerfield and the interim Communications Director is my new neighbor from the Bur-Mil Park area who moved here six months ago from Anaheim, CA where she had been an active leader in group similar to ABC.  (The interim titles are in place as ABC works on its structure now as an officially recognzied PAC with the SBOE.)

It was an extremely well organized and professionally run meeting managed by the articulate Michael Murphree.  First post meeting afterthought: These folks are serious and are a legitimate grass roots challenge to be reckoned with by the ruling establishment in our government school system of Guilford County.

sidebar1: Blogosphere meets real world - After the meeting I learned that the interim assistant director of ABC was already familiar with my positions on school issues having been forwarded them by another ABC member who had excitedly gobbled them off my campaign blog - which she had apparently reached via Hogg's Blog

sidebar2: One of ABC's newest members is an experienced webmaster who is going to be donating his time to significantly upgrade ABC's web presence.  He was quoted as saying something like, "I love what you guys are doing, but your website is junk.  Let me help."
