From Russia with Love

I thought NY's ex-mayor was stunning in his ability to communicate tonight.  I agree with him on few points, but his delivery and facial expressions were impecable.  He belongs on Broadway.

For all his impressive lines, the one that stickes in my head from the moment it was uttered is:

"We are comrades."

Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey

Turned C-span on just in time to see Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina introduce John McCain.  A few weeks ago, the soft-spoken, 40 plus, unmarried Mr. Graham was on a radio show in Greenville-Spartanburg and "for the last time" told his audience "I am not a homosexual."  That's important voter info there.

You know if I was concerned about that kind of an image, I don't think I would have kissed John McCain on the neck before a national audience.  Our Senate is a close bunch I suppose.  Senator McCain must have enjoyed the embrace as much as his Senate colleague since he opened his speech with three separate thank you's for "Lindsey."

editor's note: If you name your son "Lindsey" don't be surprised if he grows up with issues.

Deep cover

Every few weeks my daytime (and nightime) job requires I disappear for several days at a time.  Sometimes it stretches to a week or more as has happened here.  As mentioned before I believe I am more of a weekly reporter than a daily one.  Daily is a job for someone who has never kept a journal.

After spending Thursday thru Sunday at the Marriott Perimeter in Atlanta I am now in West Jefferson, NC ---- "Foxx Country" as the locals say.  Swamped in JBS biz meetings and ticked that the Marriott - down the street from the Apple and Oracle buildings - charges $9.95 for a high speed connection I was frugal with my dial-up on-line time.  Now in West Jefferson, I find that my nearest Bellsouth dial up is long distance and that anything faster than an unimaginable 19.2K seems to lock the system.  I guess I should be enjoying the mountain air.
