DR-CAFTA dog and pony show recap

Still writing up all the results of our attendance to the DR-CAFTA show put on by WTCNC and the USTR last week in NC.

The Pravdaesque report that showed up in the Raleigh Observer on Saturday was quite a bit different than how I saw it as someone in the audience.  I e-mailed the reporter this morning and received a response that future articles on DR-CAFTA would be coming and that I might expect to be contacted.

Stop the FTAA forces who had paid $65 each to attend politely logged in about half the questions taken at both staged events.

We enjoyed putting Assistant US Trade Representative Christopher Padilla on the spot.  His boss Robert Zoelick, is now on his way to being Deputy Secretary of State for Condi Rice and it is nice to think that for a mere $65 you can buy a little face time with a loyal cog in the Bush Administration.

The highlight of Friday's show in Raleigh was the look on the USTR's faces and the crack in their voices when they responded to a question which quoted from Article 1 Section 8 of the US Constitution, "Congress shall have power...to regulate trade with Foreign Nations."  The knashing of teeth reaction was not unlike what one might expect from demonically possesed persons who had just been read a passage from the Bible.
