CAFTA Battle Grows... In case you were wondering we had 65-70 people for our Free Trade Trap dinner speech by Bill Jasper last Wednesday night at the Koury Convention Center. We tried to get some news coverage from the News and Record on this topic but they were just not interested...even though the CAFTA deal is promoted by supporters as the biggest deal since NAFTA and North Carolina is considered one of the key battle ground states. The day of our Greensboro speech the Greenville News ran a CAFTA opinion piece from one of our SC board members. On Saturday the Raleigh News and Observer ran a letter from our co-chair. Today the Miami Herald (in another battleground state) ran a large pro CAFTA piece as a counter to President Lula of Brazil dissing the FTAA and as an opportunity to smear anti-CAFTA people as "isolationists". All the while, the last two weeks have seen heated discussions in Congress on CAFTA just as hot as anything going over Mr. Bolton or the Nuclear Option. The textile industry all around us is at ground zero in the CAFTA battle and the N&R's response is a yawn. 10:25:45 PM![]() |
