A picture named FDRjrmarries.jpg
Not sure if it is an effect of the GTRC but there seems to be a sudden nostalgia for the 70's in the Greensboro blogosphere lately.  Here is my contribution.

This photo is from the Charleston News and Courier circa 1972.  The news clipping was in a book an old Birch member passed on to me a few months back.  My guess is that the inspiration to save it was to remind people that while FDR screwed the rest of the nation with our social security ponzi scheme his own family was doing significantly better in their own personal retirement plan.

Here is the full text of the article:

New York (UPI) - Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr., son of the 32nd President of the United States, was married in a private civil ceremony Wednesday to Mrs. Felicia Warburg Sarnoff, member of a leading financial dynasty.

State Supreme Court Justice Frederick Backer performed the ceremony in his chambers in the presence of a few members of the families.  The attendants were Mrs. Emil Mosbacher Jr,. wife of the U.S. State Department's chief of protocol, and Richard Miles, a business associate of Roosevelt.

It was the third marriage for the 53 year-old bridegroom and Mrs. Sarnoff's second.  He was divorced Monday in Juarez, Mexico from his wife of 20 years the former Suzanne Perrin, and the bride was divorced earlier this year from Robert Sarnoff, president and board chairman of RCA Corp.  Roosevelt's first wife was the late Ethel duPont.

The couple will leave tomorrow on the luxury liner France for a honeymoon in Europe which will include yachting in Italian waters and a visit on the Greek island of Skorpios with Mr. and Mrs. Aristotle Onassis.  They will make their home in New York where the bridegroom is board chairman of Fiat-Roosevelt Motors, auto importers.

Roosevelt is a former New York Congressman and under secretary of commerce in the Kennedy administration.  He ran for governor of New York in 1966 on the Liberal Party ticket but was defeated.  He has two sons and two daughters by his previous marriages.

The bride is the daughter of the late investment banker Paul Felix Warburg and of Mrs. Lawrence Steinhardt of Woodside, Calif.  The Warburgs established themselves as international bankers in Hamburg, Germany, in 1798.  She is also the great-granddaughter of Jacob H. Schiff, the philanthropist.

Roosevelt, champion of the working man.  Yeah, right.
