Howard Coble on CAFTA (post Caucus forum)

From Women's Wear Daily May 25th: (subscription required)

"When I cast my vote, whether it is for or against CAFTA, I will annoy and disappoint about half of the textile community in my district. That's the bad news," said Rep. Howard Coble (R., N.C.), co-chair of the 80-member caucus. "The good news is I will please and satisfy the other half."

Looks like we still need to convice Congressman Coble that CAFTA affects more than the textile industry in his district.

UPDATE:  Perhaps it was the AIPAC bagman, but as of at least 5/27 the CAFTA letters coming out of Congressman Coble's office now show him back where he belongs on CAFTA...in the NO camp:

"...I believe CAFTA, like the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), would directly cause additional textile and apparel job losses in the U.S. and while increasing the U.S. trade deficit.  For these reasons, while I am keeping an open mind, I do not plan to support this free trade agreement at this time."

Howard Coble CAFTA update

Received a report from a local AIPAC supporter that he was able to pass on to Howard Coble my slick anti-CAFTA literature just moments before Congressman Coble left his office to attend the Congressional CAFTA forum which he chaired this Tuesday in Washington.

Every JBS State Coordinator needs an AIPAC bagman for a friend.

Sidebar:  Though probably not for all the same reasons as the JBS, it's good to hear that Rabbi Guttman belongs to the anti-CAFTA camp.

US Air Leaving PTIA Soon?

This seemed to be news last night to everyone having a beer after the game.  It was the skinny in several e-mails where one guy works discussing the recent hiring of some local senior level US Air staff who have started to bail.
