Military Confusion

An Army National Guard Apache helicopter crashed in the Cape Fear river last night in Chatham County. (updated on-line version here)

The printed news report from this morning's paper caught my attention:

"Resue efforts were hampered by rain, darkness and confusion as to where the craft might have gone down."

Here is the other data reported:

The helicopter failed to return to RDU at 8:00pm as scheduled.

The wide ranging search found the downed helicopter at about 10:30pm

A high voltage power line near the crash site was snapped by the impact at about 7:30pm.

As the Helicopter went down, it pulled down 30 high voltage power poles for several miles on either side of the river, according to Progress Energy.

Now with all this information on a crash within a few miles of one of the biggest military installations in the United States and the only complicating factors being rain and darkness, what are your chances of being found quickly in Iraq or Afganistan.

NC Taypayers and students targeted to subsidize College Booster Clubs

Raleigh News & Observer reports that the Senate version of our state's $17 billion odd dollar budget contains a provision that gives outstate students on full scholarships in-state tuition status.

"The intent, Sen. Tony Rand said this week, was to help private groups, such as UNC-Chapel Hill's Morehead Foundation, afford more scholarships. It also would save millions for athletic booster clubs, such as the Rams Club and the Wolfpack Club, because they now pay higher out-of-state tuition as part of their scholarships. Many scholarship athletes are from outside the state."

It's not enough that we have to subsidize the DELL's of the world.  Now the gangsters running around in Raleigh want us to underwrite the fat cats (actually rams and wolves) who want better players on their favorite college teams.

Remember, education is #1 in NC.
