Meandering

Police are uneasy about postings from William Sheehan in Washington that shares a lot of personal information (NYT).   Courts (federal) have upheld his rights – even striking down a law (Washington State) that forbade him from publishing home addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, and social security numbers (hmm… Georgia has a similar law).  The District Court in Seattle said Sheehan’s site was “analytically indistinguishable from a newspaper.”

Lots of solid issues here – privacy is a concern, the ability to speak is a concern, but, so is the ability of anyone to publish their thoughts.  Tough calls on all three.  Course, like most of us in public service – you lose your anonymity when you take the paycheck.

Korea most wired (Forbes) – everyone is using the net, old, young, you name it.  Makes you wonder if we “get it.”

Revolving doors – Richard Clarke will now help you with Homeland Security issues – for a fee (Computer World).

Security – well, you may not be worried if your site is on the front page for yet another computer security incident – but do you want to be there as a distributor of porn?  New Trojan hijacks pc’s to do just that (wired).

Winer blogging – you know, some of us want to use the tool as a tool – not as a replacement for a life – so, all you folks worried about editing posts – GET OVER IT!

(There, I feel better).  Now, about my page renderings not looking so hot…

Graham Leach Bliley – and if you thought that PATRIOT Act was onerous, wait til you discover GLB is applied to Universities per FTC rules….  But, we’re not worried about it here in Georgia – nah, the Dooley-Adams feud is the most important issue here – if you read the editorials.
