My Dear Voters;
We are heading off to a great start! My campaign is big news, one reason being the fact that I am now using this web log for my campaign. Thanks to Columnist Ed Cone for his encouragement, and for Tara Grubb, Libertarian for Congress, who came up with the original idea to use a web log for her campaign. This is my first entry for my new official Campaign to Elect Medlock web log, but believe me, I will be posting a lot of information here. I have lots of letters to the editor that I have written since 2000. I plan to make them available to you and reply to your inquiries.
Ed Cone asked me on Sept. 13th 2002, why I wanted to start a web log. Here is my reply:
"I truly believe in direct communication and honesty between leaders and citizens," I replied. "A web log cannot replace personal, face-to-face contact or even a phone conversation, but it is a very convenient communication tool. If I win my election, I plan to continue to use it so that my constituents have access to me and can stay informed."
The big news is that unlike many Libertarian campaigns, mine has a chance. My opponent, Republican Steve Wood, does not have a good reputation. This race is a winnable, local election. And like all grassroots organizations, you have to start small.

"Two years ago the Republican Party leadership was so disgusted with Wood that it recruited John Blust to run against Wood. Blust beat Wood in the primary, and then Wood joined the Reform Party, ran in the general election and was defeated by Blust again. Wood had been tossed out of the Republican caucus in Raleigh for supporting the Democratic leadership." Then Hammer continues, "If the Libertarians want to elect a representative to the State House, this is a race they should really concentrate on. As Blust proved, Wood can be beaten by a candidate who is willing to publicize Wood's record. If Medlock will get out and work and the Libertarian Party will put some money into her campaign, she can WIN."
