Strange packets dropping off my firewall, trying to reach port 64309. Neither ISC nor the list at IANA knows what it is for. 12:20:57 PM |

Why do DOS boxen always die on you? The machine in question runs Linux actually, but still. My oldest Mac is about ten years old and alive and kicking, same goes for my SUN. It seems paying a little more up front, gives you a longer time to make use of your investment. On the other hand, DOS boxen seem to be build not to last as long in the first place. Probably its a different kind of attitude: "The thing needs to be dumped in eight to twelve months anyway, because it won't be able to run the latest WinDOS™ when the security-patch is applied." That sentence seems to echo from the manufacturers labs all over the world followed by: "Buy the new system, it is 0.005 MHz faster and will be able to run Doom™ much faster." I'm using the thing to work, for cryin' out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if I would follow the advice given in A dream machine for non-gamers, the bloody thing would die on me within the next eight to twelve months, I'm afraid. 10:16:22 AM |
