In another life I'm an  artist.

I don't feel much like writing about the War today.  I'm actually a tech analyst and writer in my day job.  But I stumbled across the following on Ars Technica, which combines technology and the War, and I fell on the floor laughing.  Click on Hannibal to send an email to the author of the post:

Why Apple won't make a cell phone

Posted 4/12/2003 - 5:05PM, by Hannibal
I'll admit that an Apple cell phone is one of the rumored iGadgets that I'm most looking forward to. So I was disappointed that this analyst's arguments as to why Apple won't go near the cell phone business anytime soon made a lot of sense. I won't try to summarize his arguments, here, but they're worth reading. I'd like to hear what some of the hardcore Apple watchers in the Mac Ach think of his reasoning. The one bright side is that he still seems to think that another Apple portable gadget of some kind will inevitably be released.

And speaking of Apple, after reading this page it occurred to me that Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, the (apparently erstwhile) Iraqi Minister of Information would make a great Apple spokesperson if only he could learn to wield a little bit of the RDF. Consider:

"Do not believe the lies of the PC infidels. The PC chips have not reached 3GHz. It is Apple that is at 3GHz. Our initial assessment is that the PC is still at 250MHz, and we will slaughter Microsoft in the server market and in the home. Our market share is at 90%."

We are in control. The PC users are in a state of hysteria. They do not even have control over themselves! Do not believe them! Losers, they think that by building fabs and plants and chips and trying to distort the feelings of the people they will win. I think they will not win, those bastards."

"NO! We have retaken the education market! The infidels attacked the education market but we have killed them all with bullets and shoes. There are NO PCs there. I will take you there to the public schools and show you. IN ONE HOUR!"

Ok, go easy on me. It's the weekend. At least I crack myself up.

Oh, and while I'm on the topic of government spokespersons, I should point out that I've recently been turned on to the poetry of one D.H. Rumsfeld, Bard of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Update: I thought of some more Apple Information Minister quotes, and posted them in the thread. Please contribute some more of them to the thread if you're so inclined. And I can't resist putting this one up:

"When we were making the GUI, when we were computing with RISC and folder icons the grandfathers of Ballmer and little Gates were pecking around on the command line. PC losers are wild donkeys and deserve only to be hit with shoes."

Apparently  Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf has developed a cult following ever since his boffo performance on Iraqi TV in the face of the the American - er, should I say "Coalition" - onslaught. Check out the WeLoveThe IraqiInformationMinister web site.
