Dave's editorial in the Harvard Crimson about Weblogs.  A good read.  I believe blogs and syndication are going to change the face of publishing - and our country, if we can just be that bold.

Second, a great essay in this past Sunday's Mercury News on  "Why Iraq is Not Japan." The Bushies, good corproate PR flacks that they are, have used Japan as a model of why transforming Iraq into a freedom lovin', gun-totin', capitalist democracy should be a snap.  This essay makes the point that Japan was a homogenous society who's basic structure of government had remained intact after the war.  And unlike Iraq, where the Bushies are unleashing the dogs of capitalism "that will spread at least some (and maybe a lot) of Iraq's wealth to American companies, Japan was encouraged to rebuild their country's economy themselves, and were muhc better off for doing so.

This is an excellent essay - read it.

After my brief sojourn in this blog through the corridors of my day job, covering technology and whatnot, it's time to bring you more posts about the Situation We Are In.

First, a funny (if sobering)  Ashcroft parody site.  I believe he's the Antichrist.  Certainly anyone as self righteous as he is must be wearing his wife's panties and be into S&M, dontja think?

Funny.  I stumbled across a blog by a Japanese woman called Tokyo Tidbits. It's a particularly interesing blog because she uses an au mobile phone that comes equipped with an apparently decent digital camera built-in. Consequently most of her posts include both stills and video taken with her phone, which she then emails from the phone to her blog.  Check it out.

But that's not all.  Exploring her blog, I came across a reference to her boyfriend, who she's visiting in San Francisco this month.  I checked out his blog, and found there a picture of Mie, his Tokyo Tidbit, and a reference to having just attended the ETCon, where I kinda recall seeing him in the halls.

Small world, eh?
