Astronomical Decorations on Ceramics, Modern part VIII

Phil Norris, no relation, has a Saturn lamp base, complete with rings, as well as a Moon lamp base, with craters.

These simple forms explore the use of clay to "model" a celestial object. Unlike others, they are not as a decorative element. (Granting that the celestial model is a decorative motif for a lamp, but not a repetative element in such.)

It should be noted that these pieces of Mr. Norris could not be confused with accurate depictions of the astronomical bodies. They are merely suggestive of them.

Going further, are David Gilhooly's planets. Here you have only a conceptual notion of planet as a place without the reference to any actual celestial body. (Save for "The Fun Side of the Moon.")
