EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

This computer help web site will be of interest to anyone who works regularly with computers; certainly instructional designers and staff who support distance education students and instructors will find Computer Hope of great value. You can test your geekiness by taking the Monthly Quiz Question and by examining Quiz questions and answers from previous months. Also available is the Computer Word of the Day and the Latest Computer News. See the Site Map, the First Time Users link, and the Top 10 Pages to orient to the site.

"Computer Hope is a collection of free services that allows any user to access its database of extensive free computer related information. With these resources available Computer Hope has become a popular destination for end-users as well as computer support facilities for answering computer related questions. Some of the services that Computer Hope is able to offer include free technical support, computer product information, computer product buying tips, third party computer company information, computer dictionary, weekly computer newsletter, daily computer news, and much more."

I came across the site while seeking online resources to answer a technical question about setting the command path for my computer while I explore using scripts with the Python programming language. All the computer books that I consulted provided the same incomplete information and all the online resources that I checked were similarly incomplete. Finally, after hours of searching, I stumbled across Computer Hope (a well named site!) and did a search in their database; my answer emerged in a link to Technical Reference number #CH00549 on "How to Set the Path in Windows 2000/Windows XP." Most computer questions that I need to answer are much less obscure than this one, but I expect to be returning to this site regularly.  ____JH
