Smile is a script editor for AppleScript and much more.
Smile is simpler and more user-friendly than Apple's Script Editor, which makes Smile the editor of choice for beginners. Smile implements all the basic features that improve the scripter's experience: "Find definition", in-line script execution, powerful "Find/Replace", "Recent items" menu, fast "Open Dictionary", customizable "Scripts" menu and more.
Smile is also a fully object-oriented graphical user interface builder for Mac OS X.
Since Smile implements the full Aqua interface into AppleScript, you can design rapidly the whole interface required to control virtually any automation task.
In addition to its features as an automation engine, Smile includes a scriptable graphic engine. Smile's scriptable graphic engine makes available into AppleScript the Aqua implementation of pdf, a key component of OS X, so that you make professional graphics by script in little time and with little effort.

The RavImageExport Xtra provides Director developers the ability to save a cast member or the Stage to one of several supported graphic file formats at runtime and dynamically change the dimensions or bit depth of the exported image. The Xtra is completely self contained and does not require any other Xtra. A developer can save the complete cast member or Stage to a file or specify a part of the image to export. It supports multiple compression codecs and every possible bit depth. The Xtra supports many common and uncommon bit depths and compression codecs because all the code was created and hand optimized by RavWare for use in Director. The Xtra squeezes every last byte out of the image and consistently leads to the smallest possible files. The Xtra can also export from and to external sources such as the clipboard or other Xtras. The supported file formats include JPEG, PNG, TIFF, CUR, ICO, BMP/DIB, RLE , TGA and others. The RavImageExport Xtra also has the ability to return a UUENCODED form of any of the file formats for you to post to a server for uploading of a image. The Xtra only uses patent free technologies so your application is safe from the fees and legal hassles that licensing these patents cost. The Xtra was designed from the ground up to be the fastest, smallest, and most versatile Image Exporting Xtra available.
The Xtra will work for D6 through D9 MX applications and is Shockwave safe.
Mac OS X Version will be released on January 27,2003.

We keep a dynamic list of new director resources a top the main Director Web entry ... and here is where they roll off the list, just in case you forgot to check them out. If you want to see your cool web resource appear on the Director Web marquee, just fill out our EZ form.
But now you can even search the past set of "old new links"! As of Jan 23, 2003 there are 2444 former "new" sites here dating back to February 1998.

By J.D. Lasica,
The explosion of weblogs and niche news sites poses a problem for any info-warrior: Who the heck has time to read all this stuff?
Well, here's one possible solution: news readers -- a new crop of software programs that fetch updated dispatches from your favorite online writers, bloggers or news outfits.
