Where Am I Anyway?
I am frequently frustrated by websites of local newspapers which do not bother to even mention what state they're in! For instance, I just followed a link to an article in the Hollister FreeLance. The masthead does clearly say that the paper has been "Serving San Benito County Since 1873" but since I'd never heard of San Benito County either, this was not exactly helpful info. There's also a link to news items about Highway 25, but that's another local reference point I'm not familiar with. I clicked to enlarge the weather map and it was finally revealed that Hollister, San Benito County, and Highway 25 are in—TA DAH!—California.
This is actually about average for these local newspaper sites—the state is findable, but not immediately obvious. I've seen some of these sites, though, which do not reveal the state they're in anywhere. Unlike the printed-on-paper versions of these publications, the online versions are available worldwide and should give those of us outside their neighborhood not just a clue but some identifiable info about where that neighborhood is located.
