Friday Five — Celebrities
1. Who is your favorite celebrity?
Actor: George Takei. He's such a sociable and interesting person that I'd have been delighted to know him even if he'd never been on tv!
Baseball player: Tino Martinez. When I first started watching baseball (late bloomer) he was the first Seattle Mariners player (besides Ken Griffey Jr. of course) I could recognize on sight. He's still my favorite ballplayer and I've been following his career ever since, even through his years with the New York Yankees and now with the St. Louis Cardinals.
2. Who is your least favorite? Anybody who cusses endlessly, overindulges in booze and drugs, is rude to everyone who gets near him/her, and gets publicity for being obnoxious rather than actually accomplishing something.
3. Have you ever met any celebrities in real life? All of the original Star Trek regular cast except Shatner. Many of the Trek guest stars and production staff as well, including Roddenberry himself. Charlton Heston. Quite a few science fiction authors. Several Major League baseball players, including Tino. Do local government leaders count?
4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not? I could definitely use the money fame would bring in! And being famous does allow entry into all sorts of interesting behind-the-scenes situations unavailable to us nobodies. But I'd mostly like recognition for my accomplishments and to be well thought of by people who know me. (Awwww...)
5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why? Probably Mariners manager Bob Melvin. I'd love to check out that view from the dugout and get to know the guys on the team.
