When All Else Fails: info.utah.gov

You are invited to try our search engine at http://info.utah.gov. Unlike the major general search engines, we've tailored this one to locate Utah information, especially that produced by state, county, and city governments.

Tips for using info.utah.gov:
1 - try a keyword search, then notice if any "topic matches" appear before the general list of results.  By clicking on the topic results, you will often find carefully targeted information, often within a specific domain of information.  For example, if you enter the keyword "ogden" you will get thousands of results, but before that you will get a "topic match" of "Ogden".  Click on that and you will be taken to a specific set of results largely from the Ogden city website, with the Ogden City Home Page at the top of your result set.  You can also browse the topics, which are arranged heirarchically.
2 - click on "complex" search for a more sophisticated way to do your searching. You can apply date restrictions and search specific metatags.
If you don't find what you want on info.utah.gov, click on the "Can't Find It? Ask Us" and we'll do our best to help.

In-House Attorneys Illegal

Utah's Attorney General, Mark Shurtleff, issued an opinion Oct 25 stating that it was illegal for state agencies to have their own legal counsel.
Agencies subject to
Article VII § 16 of the Utah Constitution violate the Constitution when they hire in-house legal counsel directly, bypassing the Attorney General, regardless of the official position or title given to the legal advisor, if the attorney provides legal advice to the Agency or its officers and staff.
