Disgruntled

All your other hopes have merged into the hope of being beyond the chance of its sordid reproach. I have seen your nobler aspirations fall off one by one, until the master-passion, Gain, engrosses you.  (Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol)

In order to be disgruntled, did you have to be gruntled first? I haven't posted since Wednesday. It's been a really hard, stress-filled week. My job as a lawyer is hard enough without having to deal with all kinds of extraneous crap. I've become increasingly disenchanted with the business practices, ethics and morality of Those For Whom I Toil, the head honchos of my firm (or I should say, their firm). I finally had it out last week with the Big Man and we both laid our cards on the table. It was a very ugly argument and I don't see things getting any better. They say that when you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Well I have no intention of getting up itching and scratching.

The sad thing is, I knew these guys when they were quite different than they are now, before an insatiable appetite for money began to consume them. It's corrupted them just like the One Ring corrupted Gollum and the other Ring Bearers. I'm sure they'd disagree if they read this, but I doubt very much that they even know this blog exists. They've become everything that they once said they despised. I know looks like the only thing they objected to was not being on the top of the heap, rather than the business practices of those who were at that time and in that place.

If it sounds like I'm looking to move on, well I am. When dealing with your comrades becomes more of a battle than dealing with your adversaries, I guess that's a sign.
