Mexican Drug Dealers Turning U.S. Towns Into Major Depots. Law enforcement officials say a pipeline of immigration and trade has been exploited by Mexican drug traffickers. By Tim Golden. I have an idea that will put all of these people out of business for good and keep our prison system less crowded. Legalize drugs. In a supposedly free economy it's ridiculous to try and cut off the supply of something whose demand (and price) will rise accordingly. Whenever authorities squeeze off the drug traffic a bit, something will fill the hole because, guess what, a lot of Americans use drugs at some point in their lives. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

Some progress on NewtSync, but not as much as hoped. I thought I would finish Dates sync in a few days now that I can communicate with iCal, but the Newton's format for storing recurring event data is obscure at best.

An excerpt from the Newton Programming Reference:

mtgInfo: Used for repeating meetings and events. An immediate value containing packed repeating meeting information. This slot is interpreted differently, depending on the value of the repeatType slot, as follows: repeatType = kDayOfWeek mtgInfo is set to any combination of constants from the following two groups added together: Constants for day of week kSunday 0x00000800 kMonday 0x00000400 kTuesday 0x00000200 kWednesday 0x00000100 kThursday 0x00000080 kFriday 0x00000040 kSaturday 0x00000020 kEveryday 0x00000FE0

... and so on. The Names entries have wildly varying numbers and combinations of slots in them (much to my chagrin), but for dates they instead decide to do this. I guess it makes sense because it saves space, but hexidecimal makes my head hurt. :-)
