FlashFoward news

The keynotes as usual have produced some interesting news and Mesh has reported it all (good man!). Of interest is a new release of the Flash Com server (v1.5) which now supports Linux!! (boy was that requested).

Also was a new product called Macromedia Central. I am still a little unclear on what this is but I think its a framework for letting you quickly build and deploy Flash based apps (via the player rather than the player).

A teaser was also presented for a new product code named "Royale".  From what I have read so far this looks like a product that will let you take a XML file and render it to a Flash form (CSS is also thrown into the mix). You can then attach a SOAP datasource so that you can update info from the form via SOAP. Left the following in the comments.

  • Why not take the InfoPath approach and let the form self discover the format and SOAP connectors from a WSDL file?
  • Why not use the XForms standard for the XML format?
