How dynamic is the CLR and JVM

Jon Udell has an interesting article on the state of play when it comes to dynamic typed languages and the CLR/JVM. Both VM's are designed for static typed languages rather than dynamic typed languages such as Perl, Python, Ruby etc.

Lots of input on the article via Jon's blog and a great many people have added comments. I do agree with Jon's view that the only VM that will target both dynamic and static types will be Parrot. Despite the arguements for developing a compiler for the CLR or JVM this very fact about Parrot means that it stands a higher chance of being the most popular VM for language support. As I have said in the past, Parrot will be one to watch.
