The PHP Extension and Application Repository (PEAR) is an online repository of high-quality, peer-reviewed PHP classes that conform to a rigorous coding standard. In this article, Jason Perry shows you how to install, configure and use the PEAR Package Manager on Mac OS X 10.2 [MacDevCenter.com]

Looks as if the PHP community does have something like CPAN in PEAR. I've only dorked around in PHP enough to get the Open Source version of SourceForge running within our firewall. It certainly didn't appear terribly elegant, but I'd have to say that people seem to get a lot done with it. This article should ease the installation of PHP apps. under MacOS X.

It's been nearly six months since the release of Perl 5.8.0 but many people still haven't upgraded to it. Artur Bergman takes a look at some of the new features it provides and describe why you ought to investigate them for yourself. [Perl.com]

I know all the cool kids are digging Ruby these days (and Python before that), but Perl is still pretty cool in my book. Most of all, I haven't seen another language community offer anything close to CPAN. (Am I just not hip to the Ruby or Python equivalent?)

Michael Alderete proposes a way to make using news aggregators easier on OS X. [Ranchero.com]

This is definitely the direction to go. In the meantime, I'd like to see NetNewsWire put the clipboard contents into the subscription panel rather than the previously subscribed to URL and automatically subscribe to dropped RSS URLs.
