Sky Lemon writes "An interview with Jaron Lanier on Sun's Java site discusses 'phenotropic' development versus our existing set of software paradigms. ... [Slashdot]

I always find Jaron Lanier thought-provoking, and this interview is no exception. Everyone involved in software should be wondering how we can manage complexity better than we are. Jaron suggests that we can do better by moving from "protocol adherence" to "pattern recognition" so that we might write software that degrades gracefully as a result of imperfect inputs.

I could be stretching it a bit, but I couldn't help thinking how the issues Jaron discusses relate to this exchange between Mark Pilgrim and Dare Obasanjo regarding Mark's Parsing RSS At All Costs article on XML.com.

(As an aside, I just noticed that Dare is also in Atlanta. Maybe he'll hop on the GeoURL bandwagon and will show up in my neighborhood. I also noticed that he is checking where people are from on his site, so getting on board with GeoURL would be fair play.)
