Celebration Island Style

Island_WeddingUpon my return from the British Virgin Islands and a day filled with memorable sights and experiences, I thought to myself what a magnificent place this was indeed. The beauty and romance of the islands seems to wash over everything and everyone. So it was little surprise to me when I returned to my suite to dress for dinner, and opening my balcony door, that I saw before my eyes a beautiful wedding in full force below in the gazebo overlooking the ocean. The father of the bride walking his little girl down a satin runner filled with brightly colored flowers. The guests dressed in their best clothes and seated on the whitest of chairs. A videographer as well as a photographer milled about snapping memories of this wonderous celebration where two people came together to celebrate their love. I watched until they were pronounced, "husband and wife".Carnavale_In_The_Air

The wedding now complete and now dressed for dinner, I ventured down poolside towards the restaurant. Each day was a different theme and tonight was no exception, for this was Carnavale. Decorations hung all about and lights strung from palm tree to palm tree, there was an aire of revelry in the night. Island music played and even staff members participated wearing brightly colored clothes and masks. It actually felt as if I was transported to some street faire and the entertainment was all about me.

With the music playing and the feeling of celebration in the air, I was seated for my dinner which consisted of peel-n-eat boiled shrimp, jumbalaya, dirty rice, cajun pasta and a host of other such treats. More food was offered than any ten people should possibly want to eat as well as a constant flow of tropical drinks. So as not to offend my hosts, I did my best to eat a fair share and drink a great variety of different and most satisfying refreshments.Fireworks_Across_The_Bay

Several hours later and the skies now inky black, I returned to my suite and rested at the table and chairs on my balcony marveling at the millions of stars in the sky. Such a deep blackness that I never see at home due to the city lights, I traced several constellations that appeared overhead. And almost as if it were the culmination of the perfect day, across the bay at St. John, the celebration was just begining. Comfortable in my seat with the balmy sea breeze to keep me company, I watched for hours the setting of hundreds of fireworks in celebration of the 4th of July. It was indeed the perfect way to end a perfect day, in celebration of this wonderful paradise!

Today's Quote:

I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.-Walt Whitman
