French Version of "What is Plone?"David Sapiro at Pilot Systems did a French translation of the current Plone promo page. Thanks David, looks quite nice!9:08:34 AM ![]() |
News From Ingeniweb SeminarI mentioned previously that Ingeniweb was hosting a business seminar for Zope and Plone in Paris, April 14. Jean-Rene sent me a report several weeks ago that I sat on too long (sorry Jean-Rene).
The verdict? A big, big success. So big, in fact, they're planning another at the
end of June. They had people from outside France and filled up the available
seats weeks in advance. I'll find a URL for those interested in signing up. |
Ain't It The TruthMan it's good to be home. When I'm on the road, I feel like I'm a different "me" than usual. Not better or worse, just different. It's nice to be back in your own place, playing with your kids, doing the dishes, and settling into the pace where you're not constantly aware of the surroundings.I'm listening to an old REM disc, which is drifting me back to earlier times. I love a line from "I Believe" that says: "Trust in your calling, make sure your calling's true. Think of others, the others will think of you." Ain't it the truth. How lucky am I to do something worth believing in. This OSCOM conference feels like a transition point that delivers that message in spades. The OSCOM board, the "Band of Brothers", is a group of competitors not just working together, but becoming friends. We all stayed at Eric's house in Cambridge and, quite simply, enjoyed each other's company.
On the flight to Boston I read in Fast Company about the latest annointed Guru
VC. This guy actually speaks the truth, telling us to all calm down and pursue the
normal. And how bout this: Forget about the lottery ticket of options and wealth in your twenties. Instead, find a job you love, that makes you proud, and spend years pursuing good works. Gee, ain't it the truth. |
OSCOM 3 Highlight: Jon UdellJon Udell thanked me in yesterday's weblog entry. Nope Jon, thank you. Jon's keynote was my favorite part of the conference. His thesis of "important things you learned in grade school" is an important reminder. The important things are usually the simple things, not the deep architecture issues. Conferences like OSCOM 3 overdose on cutting-edge technology because, frankly, that's what our target audience wants to hear. But there's a difference between what we want to hear and what we need to hear. (Dave also touched on this in his keynote.) Jon found a way to hit on the latter, particularly with the meme about the making our UIs "civilian-friendly", that was fun, accurate, and memorable. We gotta make this stuff easier to use. Gotta, gotta, gotta.
Lots more OSCOM 3 stuff to talk about. For now, here are a couple of photos,
courtesy of Brother Henri: me
introducing Jon and me showing Twingle to Jon before the Town Hall meeting. Jon's a really cool and
interesting person to chat with. We were lucky to have him with us. |
