A picture named Jobs.jpg This is not about the arrogance of Steve Jobs, once more selling his OS X Tiger upgrade as the best thing that ever happened to mankind (still, the Mac is the best computer around, no question about that), not about the ugly looks of Mail in Tiger or the taking away of QuickTime Pro functions for which you will have to pay again to get these back in Tiger. No, this is about major annoyances in the new OS X.
It is true the gullibility and unconditional adoration of many a Mac user for his machine is approaching the stupor of the common Microsoft user. Some say 'Tiger rocks'. Yeah, great, but what exactly do they mean? Nothing special. It bumps, it wobbles.
But there are again problems with Tiger. The question is do you really need Tiger? When I upgraded to Panther, I thought I could use some of the improvements; well, after consideration and using Panther since it came out, I have come to the conclusion that it was not worth it. This will be even more so for Tiger. Apple's Sherlock was heralded as a major improvement. Who is using Sherlock nowadays? Most channels are only useful in the US, not much has been implemented abroad. But it sure looked spiffy, just like Dashboard in Tiger.
Dashboard is ridiculous. I already have a clock, a calculator, a calendar, etc. Spotlight? My system already is well organized. I know where to find everything. Automator? We already have scripts. HD resolution? What if your computer and screen do not support that? 64-bit speed? What if you don't have a fast G5? So most people will not see a great difference with Panther. But hey, Tiger rocks!
There are, however, some serious incompatibilities in Tiger. Again some ethernet modems will not work; also some printers, scanners, and keyboards are not recognised. Apple's File Sharing via AFP does not work any longer. There are incompatibilities with Firefox, DiskWarrior, Wacom-tablets, Virex, VLC, Windows Media Player, Adobe, Stuffit, just to name those I actually use myself. Of course, these problems will all be solved in time, when all the companies involved have adapted their firm- and/or software.
Tiger is pathetic. Save your money until you buy a new Mac and get Tiger for free. And Steve Jobs should stop the malpractice of removing functions in his so-called 'upgrades'.

In several BBC interviews George Galloway was attacked by journalists in the most unprofessional way. Jeremy Paxman only managed to show his hatred for Galloway. And he did this in the most disgusting way, not letting Galloway finish his sentences, asking preposterous, biased and suggestive questions. Paxman accused Galloway of using race to reach his aim, and a few seconds later Paxman uses a black New Labour member to defame Galloway. Paxman accuses Galloway of being a demagogue, but Paxman in this 'interview' is himself a perfect model of demagoguery.
This is a crying shame for the BBC. Paxman has shown no integrity and decency at all. We now know where Paxman stands, he does not care at all about the more than 100,000 people who were killed in Iraq. Galloway still managed to put Paxman in his place and was then rudely cut off. In any other country this would have been enough to sack Paxman.
Watch the 'interview'. Also here.
