No public figures have risen this week to decry this most recent carnage, no one is breaking into regular programming on cable news shows. Perhaps Americans have simply become numb to the background hum of Iraqi violence. Perhaps the lack of graphic images on television mean that medium doesn't know how to cover the story. Perhaps, more cynically, Iraqis killing Iraqis is not as compelling a story. The left-leaning American Progress Action Fund said in a statement yesterday America's most important foreign policy venture is teetering on the edge of civil war, but it is being ignored by television networks." RawStory: "Congressman John Conyers will be issuing a letter cosigned by roughly 50 House members calling for a special prosecutor to investigate claims that the U.S. has violated the War Crimes Act at secret detention facilities in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay." It is clear that those European countries which moderately supported the Bush war, only did it for profit. The Netherlands has the interests of Royal Dutch Shell, of course. KhaleejTimes: "Italian troops were sent to Iraq to secure oil deals worth 300 billion dollars, and not just for post-war humanitarian purposes, an Italian television report by RAI claimed on Friday." In the meantime, the situation in Uzbekistan has deteriorated and it seems about 500 people were shot by Bush's friend Karimov. Have you noticed that Bush is always on the side of the worst dictators?
