A tiny garden with its little critters.

VerdantPower: "Instream Energy Generation Technology (IEGT) - also called free-flow hydropower technology or kinetic hydro energy systems - generate electricity from the kinetic energy present in flowing water. The systems may operate in rivers, manmade channels, tidal waters, or ocean currents. IEGT systems utilize the water stream's natural pathway. They do not rely upon the potential energy of artificial water-head, created, for example, by impoundments such as dams. They do not require the diversion of water through manmade channels, riverbeds, or pipes, although they might have applications in such conduits. IEGT systems do not require large civil works; however they can be placed in existing tailraces and channels."

You could install these things in practically all water ducts and they'd be much less of an eyesore than the wind turbines. I wouldn't advise them for scenic waterways though, they would require cabling and stuff.
