EL AL FREIGHTER LOSES PARTS OVER HOLLAND
NRC: Around 18:00 yesterday evening an El Al freighter plane landed at Schiphol Airport after having lost two fuselage plates and burst a tyre during take-off in New York.
Inhabitants of the Schiphol area called the authorities to report falling parts. The parts found missing were large plates size 80x80 cm. The plane is grounded.
It is clear El Al has not learnt anything from the catastrophe of October 4, 1992, 18:30, here in the Bijlmer, not far from where I live. Under similar circumstances, an El Al freighter had lost first one motor then another, then crashed into a Bijlmer building, killing 43 people.
With those El Al planes having their European base here at Schiphol, I do not feel safe any longer. The Israeli secret service handles all security aspects at Schiphol, for obvious reasons. However, the Dutch government does not know what these planes are transporting. After years of inquiries it became clear that that particular plane was carrying all ingredients apart from one, to make Sarin, a nerve gas.
I call for an immediate stop of all El Al flights to Schiphol. Safety regulations made to protect the Israeli crew and load, actually prevent our authorities from obtaining information about the cargo and the plane, thereby creating a risk for the population in this neighbourhood. How many times before, have we been in danger?
Maintenance of El Al planes is grossly insufficient. There is now a far greater threat emanating from the El Al flights than from any terrorist eventuality.
Moreover, these planes take off from New York, so what about safety and security in New York?
Send your protest to the Mayor of Amsterdam and City Council.
