I Wish I Had This Kind Of Time On My Hands.
LONDON (AFP) - Two British men have set a new record for visiting all 275 stations on the London Underground railway network, shaving 43 minutes off the previous fastest time.
It took Geoff Marshall, 32, and Neil Blake, 31, a total of 18 hours, 35 minutes and 43 seconds to dash through every station on the 408-kilometre (253-mile) network, known as the Tube.
It was the seventh attempt by Marshall, a computer expert, to beat the record. The six previous bids failed for a series of reasons -- missed connections, breakdowns, heatwave and a knee injury.
On this occasion he went into training for six days to get fit and identify the ideal itinerary using the Tube's 12 lines.
"This time we worked out a new route, although it only needs one train to break down and your chances are over," Marshall told the Evening Standard newspaper.
The men's journey started in northeast London shortly before 5:30 am and ended in the southeast of the capital shortly after midnight. They are keeping the details of their route secret, to protect their new record.
Ironically, by the time the successful pair had completed their journey, they had just missed the last tube home and had to take a taxi.
