Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Processes

It's a problem I've wrestled with for many years. What are the roles of Network Management tools? How best are these tools implemented? After many years of frustration I've finally hit on a strategy to answer these questions. The answer? Processes.

So, from now on I am refusing to make any Network Management tools purchases unless they are obtained in support of an established process. I've identified 7 such processes that are currently under development, or at least refinement, at UEN. These processes are:

  • Internet Usage Analysis Process

  • Circuit Utilization Analysis Process

  • Equipment Utilization Analysis Process

  • Resource Analysis Process

  • End User Experience Analysis Process

  • Systems Analysis Process

  • Security Threat Analysis Process

  • The final piece of this puzzle is that all of these processes will support the UEN Performance Report (formerly known as the UEN Scorecard Project.)

Over the next few weeks I will be explaining these processes and detailing the progress we make in each area. So, stay tuned...............
