Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

More Broadband Applications

Publishing "Part One: Embracing Change" last week immediately sparked my brain and I thought of a few more Broadband Applications. I will need to go back and update that piece. So add these to the list:

Broadband
Education
  • Virtual Reality
  • Wow! How did I miss Education? This is going to be a big bandwidth application. It's already begun. The use of online courses is increasing by huge amounts each year. Hybrid courses, combining some classroom time with a significant amount of online work, are becoming popular. And online library resources are increasing all the time. The UEN Pioneer Library project is a good example. I'd provide a link, but you need to be in recognized IP space to benefit.

I understand why I missed virtual reality. Actually, that's probably a bad name. But it fits my purposes. Think of it as games and sex. Neither appeals to me, in an online sense. But, even if I'm not a virtual reality consumer, thousands of network customers are, and will be. Hey, let's face it. Virtual reality is big business and will only get bigger, pushing the need for greater and greater bandwidth.

I'm certain that I've missed other potential network applications. The possibilities are limited by the human imagination, and that means it is pretty much limitless.............
