Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Proactive

It's times like these that I have to drop back and think through some basic principles. One of the most important of these principles is what I call "the illusion of being proactive." What is that?

It is a point that is made very effectively in the book "The Fifth Discipline." Kidding yourself about being proactive is done by trying to change the behavior of someone else.

Actually being proactive is considering one's own behavior and making changes to that. Simple enough in theory. One of the most difficult theories to practice. And it takes years to perfect proactive behavior. I'm still a work in progress...........
