BBI
A few months ago I read a Phil Windley blog that has kept me thinking ever since. I've intended to write a follow-up for some time. Phil asked some questions about Blogging tools. What would we want to change? What would make our blogging life better? I believe that he had read a blog and was expanding on other thoughts. Well, I do have a few other thoughts along these lines, too. Oh, and don't take this too seriously. This post is just for fun.
Actually, the thing I want is what I've come to think of as BBI or Brain/Blog Interface. This would be a way for me to think and have those thoughts posted directly to my blog. How cool would that be? Well, pretty cool for me.
I find that I have some great blogging ideas that invade my brain during walks, bike rides, road trips in the car and other inopportune times. These thoughts consume my thinking time and yet, when I finally sit down to a keyboard and get these thoughts into a cyber form, they often times are gone. Or at least the details are sparse.
I've tried to use dictation devices, but the link between my brain and my mouth doesn't seem to be any better than the link between my brain and the keyboard. So, more often than not, I am disatisfied with the quality of my writing.
And lest you think that this is an idle request, I remind you that DARPA has been working on a BMI (brain/machine interface) for some time now with a good bit of success. When last I checked, DARPA scientists were able to connect a primate to a machine through the BMI. The primate was then able to move a mechanical arm by thoughts alone.
So I've been thinking about this BBI for a while now. And I realize that I want something more than just a Brain/Blog connection. What I really want is a wearable computer that gives me much more than just an interface from my brain to my blog. Here are my requirements.
First, a computer that can be worn and integrated into my clothing. This must be lightweight, yet powerful.
Second, a heads-up display. Initially this could be integrated into the lenses of my glasses.
Third, persistent, wireless network connectivity.
The computer would need:
An integrated camera with pan and tilt capabilities.
An integrated telephone.
An integrated GPS.
An integrated satellite receiver and high definition TV receiver.
I would also need to have the ability to point and click through a simple set of menu options to activate these integrated devices. I would hate to have to use my hands to move a mouse cursor. What I'd really want is the ability to look at a point on my heads-up display and think, thus activiating my GPS, for instance, and then draw on a full compliment of GPS features. I could check my route for the day, integrate my vehicle mileage into my log, create e-mail and send the contents of my log on to my assistant, all with the simplicity of a few thoughts.
And the possibilities are endless. All one would need to do is think about all of the potential of a BCI (Brain/Computer Interface) that could be integrated and operated by an individual with a combination of looking and thinking.
It would also be cool to have a scripting language available that could be assembled and implemented throught the thought process.
Of course, a good flow tool and some other important security tools would be essential to this personalized computer. It probably wouldn't be a windows based system. Too much potential for real trouble. What would be the conseqences of infection by bots, trojans and viruses?
I'm not even saying that I have the right vision of what will be. I've just been dreaming about what I would like to have. And the vision continues to expand. It's been a fun exercise. What do you think? What would you like to see in our bloggin future?............
